Tanner Engineering Microgrids
A microgrid provides a facility with power from multiple sources; such as wind, solar, fuel cell, battery, generator, local utility and more. It can be used to satisfy many different goals a facility may have:
- a back-up standby source of electricity to assist with power outages on the utility grid
- assist with peak shaving of high cost electricity from the utility
- provide all the electricity a facility needs for the facility to go off-grid
- clean up power where there is a power quality issue from the utility
Once a facility is on a microgrid, it is less dependent on the local utility to meet their power needs. The facility therefore has a more reliable power system, and can meet the needs of their residents, patients and staff, in extreme weather situations and other emergencies.
A Microgrid system can help a Skilled Nursing facility meet the requirements of AB 2511 and PIN 74in multiple ways.

Tanner Engineering has designed microgrids for the last 10 years. And now that the California Electrical code allows them to be used at Healthcare facilities, Tanner Engineering has worked closely with OSHPD/HCAI to develop the design review standards of these systems. We have designed and permitted 5 of the first 7 microgrid projects ever permitted through OSHPD/HCAI.
